About Jeff Stevens Games
Hello! I’m Jeff Stevens, a freelance RPG writer and producer.
My gateway RPG was Dungeons & Dragons, back in the early 1980’s. I can’t remember the exact date, but I do recall the softback rule books with the cool fantasy covers. My friend Chris and I played RPGs a lot, typically with him being the Game Master and me being the player. When we reached junior high, we found a few friends and a local gaming store that we would walk to after school and be picked up after our parents finished their day jobs. We branched out in games over the years, playing Champions, Shadowrun, Twilight 2000, Gamma World, Battletech, and Cyberpunk. But D&D was always special to me.
I played RPGs through high school and college. After graduating, I thought I’d rolled my last Constitution check for good. That is, until fall of 2015 when my younger brother Bryan asked me to join a D&D game he and some of his coworkers were starting. I was reluctant at first, and it took me a couple of sessions to get back into things, but soon I was ordering the book, multiple sets of dice, and I fell in love again.
After the initial campaign ended, we needed a new GM. I’d never GM’d before but thought I’d give it a try. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. I loved it. I spent hours preparing for our sessions – creating NPCs, writing world lore, and detailing maps. I based my first campaign on Metallica and Primus song titles, and it worked extremely well.
Later, I found the Dungeon Masters Guild, a place where fans can publish adventures, new rules, magic items, maps, and art. After purchasing and reading a few of the products, I said to myself, “Heck, I can do this.” So, I took my session notes and maps, wrote The House of the Midnight Violet, and published it on June 4th, 2016. I must admit, I had dreams of selling hundreds of copies on the first day of its release. Sadly, that didn’t happen. It rarely ever does. It did sell enough to inspire me to write another adventure – The Throne of Bone. After that, I was hooked, and I haven’t been able to stop creating or producing ever since.
It’s been so much fun telling my stories and meeting other RPG creators. This is a fantastic industry with magnificent people.
That’s me! Just an aging guy living in the Midwest living his dream of writing.
